Gastrointestinal symptoms can have many different causes. My approach is to understand the whole clinical picture, investigate appropriately and explain clearly what the results mean and what treatment options are available.

I see patients with a broad range of gastrointestinal conditions, with particular expertise in oesophageal disease, Barrett’s oesophagus, advanced endoscopy and inflammatory bowel disease.

I investigate and treat heartburn, acid reflux, regurgitation and difficulty swallowing, including patients whose symptoms have persisted despite treatment. My oesophageal practice also includes eosinophilic oesophagitis, motility disorders such as achalasia, and patients requiring more specialist investigation of swallowing or reflux symptoms.

This is an area of particular specialist interest. I assess and manage patients with Barrett’s oesophagus, including surveillance of Barrett’s and assessment of dysplasia or early abnormalities.

Where appropriate, treatment can include advanced endoscopic techniques such as endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA), allowing some early abnormalities to be treated endoscopically rather than surgically.

Bloating, abdominal discomfort and excessive gas are extremely common but can significantly affect quality of life. I assess patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), suspected small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and other causes of persistent bloating, particularly where symptoms have proved difficult to manage or the diagnosis remains uncertain.

I investigate persistent diarrhoea, constipation, rectal bleeding and unexplained changes in bowel habit. The aim is to establish whether symptoms are due to a functional condition such as IBS or whether further investigation is needed to exclude inflammatory, microscopic, structural or other gastrointestinal disease.

I diagnose and treat Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis, from newly diagnosed disease through to longer-term management. Treatment is tailored to the individual and may include conventional therapies as well as modern biologic and targeted treatments.

I investigate and manage coeliac disease, malabsorption and other disorders affecting the small bowel. Investigations may include blood tests, gastroscopy with duodenal biopsies, capsule endoscopy and, in selected patients, small-bowel enteroscopy.

Iron-deficiency anaemia may be caused by a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions. I investigate unexplained iron-deficiency anaemia, overt or suspected gastrointestinal bleeding, and patients who require further investigation after initial gastroscopy or colonoscopy has not established the cause.

I specialise in Capsule endoscopy and small bowel enteroscopy.
